Have you ever been tempted to make a snow angel?

How about a snow angel in your strapless wedding gown?

Well, Mavis did last February and I was lucky enough to be ready, willing and able to stand on a rock above her to photograph this very real moment. If you are willing to do something, that others may think is maybe a little outrageous, then I will be there to photograph it.

Mavis and Andy had an early morning wedding on the top of a large hill (mountain like) with a view of the Lanark Valley, we arrived by snowmobile - I tried to walk up it but it was pretty high up. The wind coursed across everyone’s faces with swirling snow all around and they were wed on their families’ property in snowsuits. It was very cool and a couple of hours I will never forget.

Weddings are real memories for people because they touch us and bring us back to all of those times when new members are welcomed into our own families. When you hire a wedding photographer make sure that they share your willingness to go to the top of mountain in -20 weather with you.

P.S. This picture, and the two below, are now being featured on the 10’ x 30’ billboards by the long term parking lot as you approach the Ottawa International Airport.

I’ve been very lucky/fortunate/blessed to photograph the people I get to photograph.

Several years ago I photographed Christine and James’ wedding at Blessed Sacrament. Since that time I’ve photographed their growing family starting with Addison, then Liam and finally Charlie. Every time I photograph them there is so much running (racing) around, it’s like being in the middle of a family fed hurricane.

It’s awesome.

Hard to control, but who wants to kids who are drones? Well, maybe you do in a rather expensively equipped studio, but is that really who your kids are? I like to make pictures of kids being kids and those kids being involved with their moms and dads in more natural ways, in places where they can be a family.

So, this picture is a portrait of the Real Clarkes, a little distracted, a lot active, and ultimately a lot of fun.

Thank you for including me in your lives Christine and James and everyone else whom I’ve photographed and will photograph in the future.

RealVegas.
There is so much life in the world that needs capturing.

I was on Fremont Street soaking up the atmosphere of the wildness of downtown Vegas when I saw these showgirls walking to their to posing spots - I framed several pictures of them crossing the crowded street and this is the one that really grabbed my attention - some people stopping and staring while others going about their business, like this was somehow something normal. In Vegas, I suppose, it is normal.

I’d been to Las Vegas twice before, but stayed on the Strip. In the past some friends suggested avoiding the area (lots of homeless people and dangerous places) but I was intrigued by the Old School idea and two other things…

The short lived TV series The Casino, a reality show about the Golden Nugget had caught my imagination 8 years ago, I enjoyed it but Fox cancelled it anyway (I was actually sad - Matt Dusk was on the show and sang a song written by Bono). Speaking of Bono, the other motivator for staying on Fremont was the U2 Video for “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for”, http://youtu.be/GSv-lKwOQvE it was filmed on Fremont Street outside the @GoldenNuggetLV, where I made this picture.

There is so much Real stuff in the world that is very cool from the right perspective - I like to find that perspective in everything I experience and photograph.

Amanda and Jeff’s first engagement session teasers - the sun was bright and the wind was blowing (a little more than usual) when we took a walk to the Museum of Civilization then around Major’s Hill Park.

Springtime in New York. These are my recent favourites from last week’s walk from 57th and 5th to the World Trade Center (and then back).

It’s hard to believe but this is Tima and Ramsey’s fourth and final eSession - they will be getting married on June 2nd. It has been fun getting to know them and to photograph them - first at Strathcona Park (heavy downpour) then at Stewart Park in Perth (on a beautiful fall day) followed by downtown Ottawa (in the snow & on the Canal) and finally this one at the Dominion Aboretum. I’m looking forward to their wedding, it will be a lot of fun.

Note from Wikipedia: The Dominion Arboretum is located at the Central Experimental Farm of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in OttawaOntarioCanada. Originally begun in 1889 the Arboretum covers about 26 ha of rolling land between Prince of Wales DriveDow’s Lake and the Rideau Canal.

I am sometimes asked if we can include pets in engagement sessions, Yes we can, you just need to find a pet friendly spot. Sarah and Jamie met me yesterday afternoon at the Arboretum in Ottawa where we completed their second engagement session with Walter.
